Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does a funeral home have to accept a casket purchased somewhere else?

Yes.  In Ontario a funeral home cannot refuse to use a casket purchased elsewhere, or refuse you service because you did not make a purchase from them.  You may wish to have a family member present to ensure the casket delivered to the funeral home is in perfect condition upon arrival.

2. Can the funeral home charge extra fees or adjust the pricing of other services if I do not purchase a casket from them?

No.  A funeral home cannot charge extra fees for accepting a casket from another retailer.  Funeral homes must provide you with a price list of their services, and cannot make changes to this pricing based on the casket purchase.

3. Do you provide ‘Green’ caskets?

Yes.  We can provide ‘Green’ or environmentally friendly caskets or coffins by request.  An environmentally friendly casket uses plain sanded wood from a sustainable source, and left plain or rubbed with oil to finish it.  We can line the interior with cotton fabrics and other biodegradable materials.  Although we would still utilize some metal nails/staples we do offer the use of wooden handles to reduce the metal that will be buried.  Through the use of our custom options you can always choose options which will make the burial more or less environmentally friendly.

4. Are your caskets mass produced and identical?

No.  Each casket is handmade.  When visiting the showroom you will notice slight variations in colour and texture as each piece of wood naturally varies.  Our artwork is all hand painted and signed by the artist, so it too will vary slightly each time.

5. Are you a Native company?

Yes.  Everyone involved in Two Feathers Coffins and Caskets is of Native decent.  Each individual may be affiliated with a different Band, and may or may not have full Indian Status.  We believe it is important to give back to our communities, involve our communities, and make our products available to anyone who identifies with Native traditions.
